Fully Restored 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle 468
The Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is a mid-size car manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet from 1964 to 1983 and since 1997. The Malibu began as a trim-level of the Chevrolet Chevelle and it was named after coastal community of Malibu, California.
The first Malibu was a top-line subseries of the mid-sized Chevrolet Chevelle from 1964 to 1972. The Malibu SS was replaced in 1966 by a new Chevelle SS-396 series that included a big-block 396 cu in V8 engine.
Why This Car Is Special
This Chevelle Malibu we have at Skyway Classics is painted in beautiful Butternut Yellow with a slick black interior. It has been fully restored from top to bottom with a frame off restoration and also has been modified by a professional engine rebuilder in upstate NY with performance parts galore added to make it a definite presence on the street or drag strip.
Take a look at the pictures and you will see that it has a Big Block Chevy 454 bored 30 over to 468 cubic inches, with a host of high performance parts like a Holley Carb, MSD Ignition, Aluminum Intake, Flowmaster Exhaust, chrome valve covers and air cleaner, performance plumbing, headers, H.D. Fuel pump system, oversized radiator, and even air conditioning.
The power gets pumped thru an automatic transmission that is shifted by a B&M shifter inside the center console and it rides on Weld Racing Wheels, suspension upgrades, front disc brakes with rear drum brakes, and Hoosier tires.
According to the Trim Tag, the E on the options line stands for Tinted glass, K for Air Conditioning, M stands for Powerglide Transmission, and G for center console came on this car from the factory.
The black bucket seat interior is great with competition belts in the front and stock ones in the year, Autometer gauges, Ididit Tilt steering, Air Conditioning, toggle switches, tachometer, and on and on!
The restoration was done in 2008 and is documented through the complete process with pictures and receipts all in two large binders that come with the car. According to the trim tag the Chevelle was original built the fifth week of June in 1965 as a 1966 model. It was a Malibu Sport Coupe they built at Atlanta and came from that factory painted Marina Blue with a blue interior. It has since been badged as a SS 396 car with badges front, rear and on the sides as well as the addition of the 468 Big Block Chevy.
