1941 Mercury Eight
1941 Mercury Eight Convertible
Why This Car Is Special
This Mercury is street rodded with great options. Mercury convertibles are rare as it is, and to find one that has been massaged like this is really rare.
Mechanical
A 400 CID V8 has been shoehorned in and built with quite a few bolt on accessories. Starting up top, we have billet air cleaners on top of dual Holley 4 barrel carburetors on a tunnel ram intake. Aluminum heads with billet brackets allow the addition of A/C and power steering. An MSD 6A box along with an MSD distributor and Blaster SS coil provide the spark. An aluminum radiator with an electric fan keep the engine cool. The exhaust is piped out with exhaust manifolds running to dual exhaust with Thrush mufflers for a great throaty sound. Routing the power to the rear is handled by a smooth shifting Turbo 350 automatic. Power front disc brakes provide the stopping power, with the assistance of drums in the rear. The front end is upgraded with control arms and coil springs with shocks. The rear end is a trailing arm suspension with coil springs and shocks for a ride that is much improved over stock.
Interior
A power bench seat is covered in a lovely red vinyl that really sets off the inside. The addition of VDO gauges and a banjo steering wheel mounted on a tilt steering column are great touches. Power windows have been added with a subtle chrome switch on the doors, and the convertible top folds back with ease.
Exterior
This Mercury is painted a nice cream color and the black cloth top looks very rich against the paint. Chrome bumpers and the beautiful Mercury grill will make this street rod stand out at the shows. CenterLink aluminum wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich tires in the rear and Falkens in the front for that classic 'bigs and littles' look.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a Mercury street rod, your options are limited. But, lucky for you this is a great running and driving vehicle with killer good looks and options to spare. You don't have to settle for less, this Mercury is ready for all of your car show and cruising needs.
