1974 Chevrolet Camaro Pro-street
1974 Chevrolet Camaro Pro-Street
The Camaro is the flagship pony car for Chevrolet, built to compete with Ford's Mustang. It debuted in 1967, and by 1974 had gone through several major changes. The 1974-1977 have developed a following in the last few years as the 67-73 and 78-82 models have gotten so expensive. These are great cars that, as this one shows, can be built to compete with any Camaro on the roads.
Why This Car Is Special
This car has been given the kind of power it should have always had, via a big block Chevy engine and numerous modifications to get that power to the ground. The exterior is also customized so everyone knows they aren't messing with a stock 1974 Camaro and it's paltry 185 horsepower. This car puts those numbers to shame.
Mechanical
A 454 CID V8 rests nicely in the engine compartment and is built to the hilt. A serpentine belt system has been installed along with a tunnel ram intake, 4-barrel carburetor, Doug's ceramic coated headers, billet pullies, and MSD distributor. There are receipts for well over $10,000 making this car a powerhouse that runs and drives exactly like it should. It has been built right and meticulously maintained. It has a Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a stall converter and reverse manual valve body for quick shifts from light to light, or at the track. A Sidewinder shifter handles that responsibility and looks great doing it. Mickey Thompson meats out back put that power to the ground from a 12-bolt rear end with traction bars.
Interior
With as much money as was spent on the drivetrain, you may think they would skimp when it came to the interior, but it is quite the opposite. Cloth and vinyl bucket seats with a center console, aftermarket black gauges and a very nicely done roll cage with Ultra Shield harnesses, not only look great but provide additional safety benefits. A chrome Grant GT steering wheel on a tilt column makes entering and exiting the car a breeze. There are also receipts for the interior restoration that go with the vehicle at the time of sale.
Exterior
If you don't want to stand out, this isn't the car for you. From a bright blue metallic paint job with custom striping, black vinyl roof, silver painted bumpers and nice Cragar wheels, you will draw stares. A great stance, big Mickey Thompson tires a fiberglass cowl hood and a stock style spoiler really make this Camaro look tough.
Conclusion
Pro-street cars are very popular, and it is easy to see why with examples like this. It is fast, fun, and can handle anything you throw at it. The interior doesn't sacrifice comfort for performance and this car has all the right upgrades.
