Clean 1951 Mercury Sedan
History The Mercury Eight is a full-size automobile that was the first model produced by Mercury and was produced from the 1939 through the 1951 model years. It was the only model offered by Mercury until the marque started producing multiple series in the 1952 model year, at which point it was dropped as a model designation.
Why This Car Is Special The 1951 Mercury Sedan Eight we have at Skyway Classics is modified into a custom street rod most call a lead sled. This 1951 Mercury Eight has been customized with so many features it is hard to see them all at first glance. Let alone it is signed by two of the premier Rod builders in the country, Joe Bailon and Gene Winfield!
Now in case you do not know these two, Joe Bailon was an American car customizer credited with creating the paint color Candy Apple Red, which eventually led to a full spectrum of candy paint colors, each with a metallic base-coat, a transparent color coat, and a final clear coat, and Gene is an American automotive customizer whose designs in the mid-1960s caught the attention of the film community resulting in a large body of his work being seen on screen.
Mechanical Specs Under the hood you will find the Merc being powered by a 302 cubic inch V8 with a lot of chrome and polished parts like the valve covers, air cleaner assembly, master cylinder, and upgraded pulleys.
The engine has an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, performance intake, headers, dual exhaust. 3-speed automatic transmission, aluminum radiator, A/C , power steering and front disc brakes,
Interior The interior is brilliantly done with doors operating with a remote door opener for both the front and rear doors, a plush two-tone gray bucket seat with console in the front, with matching door panels and headliner, and the matching rear seats, both with seat belts in gray too.
It also has an AM/FM/CD stereo, cup holder center console, R134a air conditioning, Lecarra steering wheel, full VDO gauges, and remote air shock controls.
Exterior The first thing you may spot on this Merc is the frenched headlights, shaved door handles, and dual spotlights. But it doesn't stop there. Custom features include a C1 Corvette grille, Cadillac taillights, dual rear 1955 Pontiac bumpers, a body that was chopped. All of this custom work is covered by a white and metallic silver two-tone shiny paint.
Conclusion We can't emphasize how sweet this custom 1951 Merc Sedan Eight really is. The pictures might give you an idea, but seeing it in person is the real treat. Do not hesitate to call us on this Merc before it glides out the doors here at Skyway Classics.
