1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302

Why This Car Is Special

Only 1,628 Boss 302s were produced in 1969, making it far rarer than the 7,013 that were sold in 1970.

Mechanical

The Boss 302 engine features a unique block with 4-bolt mains and screw in freeze plugs. It has upgraded heads with a canted valve design. They produced 290 horsepower and 290 lb. ft. of torque. The engine was mated to a 4-speed wide ratio manual transmission. That power is then routed to a Ford 9” rear end. This one received a 3.50:1 rear end gear ratio that is great for getting out of turns quickly as you bang through the gears.

Interior

The interior consists of high back bucket seats and the woodgrain bezel and clock surround. This one features the round clock, seat belts, AM radio and Hurst shifter. The rear seat folds down to make this a true 2+2. Two large gauges directly over the steering column keep the important information front and center so you can focus on driving. The trunk has the correct trunk mat and shows very well.

Exterior

Calypso coral was a rare color to begin with and makes this Boss even more desirable. The rear slats came from the factory along with the rear spoiler. Magnum 500 wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas tires to keep this beauty as correct as possible. The blacked-out hood treatment, taillight panel, trunk lid and C-stripe give these Boss Mustangs a menacing look. Luckily, they have the power to back it up! The Boss received different quarter panels which eliminated the side scoops and gives these cars a slick and sporty look. This change was carried over to the 1970 Mustang for all Sportsroofs produced.

Conclusion

This is a great collector piece that is ready to show, and cruise if your heart desires. Well documented and incredibly well restored, you will not be disappointed with this 1969 Boss 302.
